Establishing a New Baseline of Employee Knowledge to Protect Consumer Trust and Confidence in Digital Services, “Digital Trust”.

The Importance of Digital Trust

In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, the importance of equipping all employees with foundational knowledge in cyber risk management, cybersecurity, cyber resilience and digital trust,  cannot be overstated.

Consumer trust and confidence is the most valuable asset any organisation has, and a strategy is required to protect it. That strategy starts with education, at all levels, and cultural change.

We need to think differently.

Based on the latest research in the emerging business discipline of digital trust and drawing extensively on UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and UK Information Commissioner (ICO) guidance, Digital Trust Professional® (DTP®) courses offer foundational knowledge to help employees and organisations build and maintain consumer trust in digital services – a strategic imperative.

Designed to be taken in order, our foundation level employee workforce development courses include:

  1. DTP® Foundation Certificate,
  2. DTP® NCSC Risk Management Framework (RMF) Foundation Certificate,
  3. DTP® NCSC Secure by Design (SbD) Foundation Certificate, and
  4. DTP® NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) Foundation Certificate.

Together the four courses provide a new baseline of knowledge for all employees, public and/or private sector, which enable increased legal, regulatory and contractual compliance, consumer centric risk management decision making, enhanced cybersecurity, improved cyber resilience and ultimately, increased levels of trust and confidence in an organisations digital produce/service delivery.

Building Digital Trust

DTP® Foundation Certificate

The Digital Trust Professional® (DTP®) Foundation Certificate serves as the cornerstone of this educational journey. It introduces participants to the critical components of digital trust, including governance, risk management, cybersecurity, data protection, privacy and transparency, and organisational resilience, along with considerations for consumer and societal acceptance of the use of new technologies.

By addressing these foundational elements, the course equips employees with the knowledge needed to build and maintain trust in digital interactions.

In an era where consumer confidence is paramount, understanding the principles of digital trust is essential for organisations to thrive.

Moreover, the course is designed to be accessible to individuals at all levels, ensuring that the principles of digital trust are embedded across the workforce.

Proactive Risk Management

DTP® NCSC Risk Management Framework (RMF) Foundation Certificate

The Digital Trust Professional® (DTP®) NCSC Risk Management Framework (RMF) Foundation course builds on the principles introduced in the Foundation Certificate by providing a structured approach to managing cybersecurity risk and associated opportunity.

The RMF, developed by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, consists of eight practical steps that increases organisational understanding, improves governance, assists in effective risk assessment, subsequent selection of appropriate risk treatment options, improves assurance, enables effective communications and cultural change.

By aligning risk management practices with organisational objectives, employees can make informed decisions that overall enhance cybersecurity resilience.

The RMF’s adaptability ensures that it is applicable to organisations of all sizes and sectors, making it a valuable framework for both public and private sector entities – there is no one size fits all, each organisations cybersecurity risk challenge is unique.

Embedding Security in Digital Services

DTP® NCSC Secure by Design (SbD) Foundation Certificate

The Digital Trust Professional® (DTP®) NCSC Secure by Design (SbD) Foundation course takes a proactive approach to cybersecurity by emphasising the importance of integrating security into the design and development of digital systems and services.

This course equips employees with the knowledge needed to embed security and consumer trust considerations throughout the lifecycle of software, systems, and services.

By adopting a secure by design approach, organisations can reduce vulnerabilities and enhance the resilience of their digital infrastructure. Employees learn to incorporate effective risk management and appropriate controls into the design process, ensuring that security is not an afterthought but a fundamental aspect of development and subsequent delivery and lifecycle management.

This approach not only strengthens cybersecurity but also fosters consumer trust by demonstrating a commitment to compliance, the protection of sensitive information and the availability of digital services.

Assessing and Enhancing Cyber Resilience

DTP® NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) Foundation Certificate

The Digital Trust Professional® (DTP®) NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) Foundation course provides employees with a systematic approach to assessing and improving cyber resilience.

The CAF, also developed by the NCSC, consists of four high-level objectives and 14 principles that guide organisations in managing cyber risks effectively.

This course enables employees to understand the structure and purpose of the CAF, as well as its practical application in assessing cyber risks. By aligning organisational practices with the CAF principles, employees can contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in cybersecurity.

Whilst primarily aimed at organisations within Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), organisations managing cyber risk to public safety and public sector organisations that support core government functions, the design and approach contained within the CAF is flexible enough to benefit all organisations, private sector and public sector, that are seeking to continually improve their cyber resilience capabilities.

A New Baseline of Knowledge for the Digital Workforce

Together, the courses establish a unified baseline of knowledge that is essential for employees in today’s digital world. By addressing key aspects of digital trust, risk management, secure design, and cyber resilience, the DTP® suite of foundation level courses ensure that all employees are equipped to navigate the increasing challenges of digital service delivery.

  • For public sector organisations, this baseline of knowledge is critical for safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining trust and confidence in increasingly digital public service delivery.
  • For the private sector, it enables organisations to build consumer confidence, protect valuable assets, comply with regulatory requirements and enable business growth.

The accessibility of these courses ensures that employees at all levels can contribute to their organisation’s efforts, fostering a culture of shared responsibility with a focus on the consumer.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Digital Trust Professional® (DTP®) suite of foundation level courses represents a transformative approach to employee education in the digital age.

By providing a comprehensive baseline of knowledge in digital trust, risk management, cyber resilience, privacy, data protection and transparency, the courses empower employees to navigate the complexities of the digital world with confidence.

For organisations in both the public and private sectors, investing in these courses is not just an investment in their workforce but an investment in their future success.

For individuals, the courses provide a new baseline of knowledge, that is in increasing demand, ensuring long-term career success.

By fostering a culture of digital trust and shared responsibility, organisations can thrive in an increasingly interconnected and digitalised world where consumer trust and confidence is a strategic imperative.
