In the May 2021 edition of Pulse, the magazine of the Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec), the new Institute of Cyber Digital Investigation Professionals (ICDIP) was announced. Run by the CIISec and grown in conjunction with the College of Policing, the concept of the ICDIP was first mooted in 2015 based on the premise that there was no professional body for individuals who work on cyber digital investigations.
There are three levels of membership (junior, standard and senior), with a distinction between “practitioner” and “strategist” at each level. As one would expect, the level awarded is based on the candidate’s experience: junior grades are expected to have one “essential” skill and one “core” skill, while the top level requires six “essential” and eight “core”. The framework also identifies five “families” of expertise: investigator, interviewer, intelligence, analyst and forensic.
Full information about the ICDIP is on the CIISec web site.
