Ethical Breach Process

You have the right to complain to the Council if you believe there has been an ethical breach.

Please note: Any complaint received that is not relevant to the Code of Ethics is out of scope for this process.

Examples of Ethical Breaches can be found here.

Report an ethical breach

Complete this form to tell us as much information as possible about the ethical breach.

Submit

1. Submit your complaint

To begin the complaint process, submit your complaint by completing the below form. If you have any queries before submitting an official complaint, you can send these to the Standards team Standards@ukcybersecuritycouncil.org.uk

Note: If your complaint is based on an alleged registration appeal process, the Standards team will collaborate with the relevant Professional Standards team to determine whether the registration appeal process should be implemented instead of the ethical breach process You will be notified if this is the case.

2. Investigation

Upon receiving your complaint, the Council will initiate an investigation.

  • The complete history of the breach, including all evidence.
  • Documentation
  • Any communication

3. Ethics Committee review

The Ethics Committee is advised to start the Ethical Breach Process and provided with a report of the complaints and steps taken to date.

Is there a case to answer - Taking the Code of Ethics and the Guiding Principles for Individuals, has there been a clear breach?  If yes, there is a case to answer.

If it is not clear, or after consideration the Ethics Panel believe there is no case to answer, this recommendation and drafted feedback should be written and approved by the Ethics Committee

The individual will receive this feedback.

4. Potential outcomes

This could include gathering more written information, research, interviews, any other actions as deemed necessary.

  • Suspension of membership of the Council.
  • Removal of membership of the Council.
  • Removal of Professional Registration status on the Council’s professional register.
  • Request for action plan and follow up on how the organisation / individual is responding to the breach.
  • Referral to other regulatory body / accreditation body as appropriate.
  • Report to relevant authorities if a crime is suspected.
  • Take no action.

5. Final outcome

Regardless of the final decision made by the Ethics Committee, the individual who made the original complaint will be informed.
