(ISC)2, the prominent cybersecurity professional organisation, announced in January 2021 that it intends to pilot online proctoring – invigilation – for its cyber security qualifications. Online-administered tests will run from 15 to 28 February, to a maximum of 2,000 in total.
(ISC)2 has waited significantly longer than other security examination providers such as ISACA (which announced online proctoring in March 2020); CompTIA did the same in April 2020, as did the SANS Institute.
Online proctoring is handled by examination provider Pearson VUE’s OnVUE service, and has strict security requirements including rules regarding what the candidate is allowed in his or her testing space (mobile phones, books, wallets and large jewellery are not permitted, for example – along with bags, large hairclips (and even firearms). There is also a strict pre-test procedures which involves giving the invigilator a webcam tour of the examination area.
The (ISC)2 web site has details of how to join the online examination pilot.
